Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What does it mean to use custom silicon to accelerate rendering?

A: To accelerate rendering, we are moving beyond conventional software-based CPU/GPU solutions and implementing custom silicon. Custom silicon refers to the integrated circuit dedicated to a specific application, in our case rendering 3D models using calculations that model light transport or PBR (Physically Based Rendering). This specialized hardware can be deployed as either an FPGA or an ASIC.

Q: What is the advantage of using custom silicon?

A: Our proprietary silicon design outperforms traditional CPU/GPU rendering by optimizing data paths and precisely scheduling calculations. Beyond superior speed, this approach guarantees consistent rendering results and run times. It avoids compatability and optimization issues common when compiling and running software across diverse CPU and GPU configurations.

Q: How can I use PiFOX's custom silicon solution for my render?

A: Our solution is now available if you register as a beta tester! Beta testers may submit renders to a remote server that hosts our custom silicon deployed in FPGA(s). The easiest way to submit renders is by using our Blender add-on. We can also provide web or hardware API libraries to support advanced integrations.

Q: How about pricing?

A: We are offering free access to our beta testers; we only ask for your feedback in return.
